On Tuesday, a powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 6.5 struck northeast Afghanistan, causing widespread damage and claiming at least 11 lives. The quake was felt in several major Pakistani cities, and as far away as New Delhi in India. The epicenter of the earthquake was located 40 kilometers southeast of Jurm in the Hindu Kush mountain range at a depth of 187.6 kilometers. In Afghanistan's northeastern Laghman province, at least two people were killed and eight injured, while in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, nine people died, including two children, and 44 others were injured. Buildings and houses collapsed in the region, triggering landslides that blocked roads and caused further damage. Emergency services were deployed to the affected areas, and rescue efforts are ongoing.

The tremors were felt across several major cities in Pakistan, as well as in New Delhi, India. Dozens more were injured, and images showed ambulances bringing victims to hospitals as crowds gathered outside. Landslides also blocked roads in the northern Pakistani city of Abbotabad. Eyewitnesses reported sustained shaking in Islamabad, Pakistan's capital, with some saying cracks appeared in their homes' walls. Tremors were also felt in Lahore, and in Srinagar, Indian-administered Kashmir's largest city.
